1 oz Platinum American Eagle

The Platinum Eagle Coin has been released along with the Gold Eagle and Silver Eagle fairly consistently since 1997. There were no platinum eagle release from 2009-2013 and none in 2015, but every year other than that has had at least 6,000 pieces minted. More recently, the mintage numbers have climbed up to about 40,000 pieces per year. There also used to be fractional Platinum Eagles but those were discontinued by the US Mint after 2008.

The Platinum Eagle coin is minted using one ounce .9995 platinum. The eagle is by far the most popular product produced by the US Mint using platinum bullion.

The obverse of these platinum coins features a close-up depiction of the Statue of Liberty with the word “LIBERTY” minted above her head. The words “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is minted on her robe in the bottom left, along with “2020” & “IN GOD WE TRUST” minted to her right

The reverse features an american bald eagle in mid-flight as the sun breaks the horizon behind it. “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” is minted at the top of the coin, with .9995 platinum just below it. The face value of this platinum coin is $100 and that is minted at the bottom of the coin, denoting the backing of the US Government.
